Anal and vaginal bleaching have become quite popular lately.
Svendsen says that, “Intimate bleaching is extremely popular right now.” Both men and women inquire about intimate bleaching. It has become a trend. But is anal and vaginal bleaching safe? Read more to find out.
WHAT IS ANAL AND VAGINAL BLEACHING?
In anal and vagina bleaching, chemicals are applied to the skin around the anus and vagina. This process lightens the deeper pigmentation in these areas. It is a cosmetic procedure in which mostly hydroquinone or kojic acid are used.
Melanin is a skin pigment. It is responsible for darker pigmentation around anus and vagina. Chemical peels or creams are used to break down melanin. They also reduce the number of melanocytes (the cells that produce melanin). Another treatment involves the use of laser for the destruction of these melanocytes.
WHY PEOPLE DO IT:
The darker skin around these areas is absolutely normal. However, people want a uniform skin colour all over their bodies. They just want to feel confident about their appearances. Hence, anal and vaginal bleaching are becoming more popular.
IS IT SAFE?
Dr.Rabia de Latour, a clinical assistant professor at NYU Langone, has warned that the bleaching agents can cause skin irritation, topical burns and even anal strictures. She also says that, “Mice studies have shown that kojic acid and hydroquinone can be carcinogenic (cancer causing) in high doses”. However, the spas use much lower doses.
Anal and vaginal bleaching are safe when done carefully and properly. Instead of doing at your own, you seek out a licensed aesthetician. Improper bleaching techniques and the use of harmful products can lead to infections, permanent skin discoloration or skin damage.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THIS PROCESS:
In anal and vaginal bleaching, effective but gentle chemical peels are used. In the end, a finishing mask is also applied. A single session has pretty effective results. However, for the best results, three or four sessions are recommended. The application of an at-home cream in between sessions is also necessary.
The bleach won’t last for long. If you feel burning or tingling then stop the treatment immediately. The laser anal and vaginal procedures might be more uncomfortable. The aesthetician will apply a mild numbing cream to reduce the discomfort.
RISKS AND SIDE EFFECTS:
The bleaching chemicals have a lot of side effects. If the product is applied in the wrong area or its amount is too much, then the effects won’t be good. The chemicals can get into the genitals or rectum.
When the bleaching chemicals get into the rectum, anal strictures form in the rectum. It will cause a lot of pain during the bowel movement.
Professional anal and vaginal bleaching entails some risks. If the technician isn’t trained, he/she might apply the product incorrectly. It will cause scarring, burning or permanent skin damage. The laser anal or vaginal bleaching can also cause damage if used carelessly.
